William and Kate write touching words to a presenter who is suffering from cancer

“Every once in a while, there is someone who captures the heart of the nation with their zest for life and their unwavering desire to give back to society. Deborah James is one of those special people. Her tireless efforts to raise awareness of colon cancer and break the stigma of treatment are inspiring,” the Cambridges wrote.

“We are very saddened by your recent news but are delighted to support your fundraiser which will benefit The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, among others,” the British royals added. “Deborah, our thoughts are with you, your family and friends. Thank you for bringing hope to so many people living with cancer.”

They signed the message with their initials, which People magazine says shows the tweet came directly from William and Kate.

anonymous donation

According to the magazine “Hello!” Kate and William made an anonymous donation to Deborah James’ Cancer Research Fund, which has raised over $3.5 million.

The BBC presenter was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer in 2016. She documented her progress and challenges on social media, and in 2020 she announced she was cancer-free before the cancer returned.

In the update James shared on Instagram on Monday, she wrote: “The message I never wanted to write. We’ve tried everything but my body just won’t cooperate anymore. My active grooming has stopped and I’m now in the Moved to home hospice care with my incredible family around me and the focus is on not being in pain and spending time with them.”

She continued, “Nobody knows how long I have left, but I can’t walk anymore, I sleep most of the day, and most of the things I took for granted are just a pipe dream. I know that we left no stone unturned. But even with all the innovative cancer drugs in the world, or a magical new breakthrough, my body just can’t keep going,” Deborah James summarized her health condition.

She also explained that her fund, the Bowelbabe Fund, is currently “under construction” and asked for support from fans so that it “can thrive”.
